Frequently asked questions
1. What does your home-visit appointment involve?
During a home-visit appointment, we bring all the essential equipment to your home. This is so we can examine, diagnose and treat your pet in their familiar setting - minimising stress from travel and waiting rooms.
2. Why should I consider a home visit instead of going to a clinic?
Home visit appointments are ideal for nervous pets, animals who dislike carriers or busy clinics, multi-pet households and owners with limited mobility. Pets often are calmer and more relaxed in their own environment.
3. Which locations do you visit?
We cover Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Forest of Dean and parts of Gloucestershire. If you're unsure if we cover your area, just get in touch.
4. What sort of treatments and services do you provide at home
We offer routine health checks, vaccinations and blood tests, as well as regular health concern consultations, elderly pet assessments and end-of-life care. For more extensive diagnostics, hospitalisation and surgeries, we can refer your to our partner practice or your own registered practice, at your preference.
5. When are home-visits available?
For routine home-visits, we are available 9am - 5pm on weekdays. We can offer emergency end-of-life care after 5pm and on weekends. Please see our opening hours for more details.
6. How do I book an appointment?
Please call us on 01600 605006 or contact us using our online form. Our phonelines are open 24/7 so you can always speak to our remote reception team.
7. What are your prices and how do I pay?
Our prices can be found here on our website. If you'd like to enquire about fees or have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Out appointment fee includes travel too, and any diagnostic tests or treatment is added on top. Payment is generally taken at the time of the appointment by card, cash or bank transfer. We can provide a receipt and invoice, if required.
8. What should I do if my pet has a medical emergency?
If you are worried your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please follow the steps here.
9. Can we still see your pets if they are registered with another practice?
Yes, we can provide home-visits for pets who are registered with a primary brick-and-mortar practice. We strongly encourage all our clients to register, or remain registered, with our partner practice or another veterinary practice. As a mobile service, there are naturally some limitations to what we can provide - for example, more advanced diagnostics, general anaesthetics, and emergency care. We see ourselves as a complementary service to your local vet practice, working alongside them to provide convenient at-home care. With your permission, we’ll share clinical notes with your regular vet for seamless continuity of care.
10. Who is our partner practice?
Our partner practice is Riverside Vet Care, in Abergavenny and Ebbw Vale. Outside of Riverside's opening hours, Vets Now Newport provide our emergency out-of-hours service.
11. What happens if my pet needs hospital care or more advanced tests?
If your pet requires ongoing care, advanced diagnostics, or surgery, we’ll refer them to Riverside Vet Care, our trusted partner clinic or your preferred primary registered practice. We will stay closely in touch and involved with their care plan to ensure seamless continutiy of care for your pet.

12. Do you provide at-home euthanasia?
Yes - we provide gentle, un-hurried, end-of-life care in the comfort of your pet's own home and can support any cremation and memorial arrangements.
13. Can you prescribe medications during a home visit?
Yes, absolutely. We carry commonly needed medications which we can prescribe in home-visit appointments. We can also provide written prescriptions and repeat medication, if required.
